This past year, I decided that I needed to spend more time building out my wardrobe basics, i.e. my capsule wardrobe. Over the past few years I have been more dedicated to trendy pieces or buying for specific events. Plus, I did Rent the Runway for a few years and didn’t buy items, so when I discontinued my membership, I had a lot of gaps to fill. Having a closet full of statement, patterned pieces makes it difficult (for me at least) to create multiple looks. As bad as this sounds, when a piece is “too recognizable”, I don’t tend to wear it as often. However, when I have multiple basics that I can mix and match, it makes creating a chic look effortless.
Blazer: Topshop // Turtleneck: Zara // Faux leather leggings: Spanx // Belt: Zara (sold out) // Purse: Mansur Gavriel // Knee high boots: Schutz
The first piece that I decided was a must have was a black blazer…but I didn’t want to look like I was wearing a tired looking suit blazer. I came across this Topshop black blazer and loved that it had a single button closure with the front flat pockets that had a subtle trim. I sized up one size (wearing size 4) to have an oversized fit. The good news is the blazer is 50% off right now!! I guarantee you will always look pulled together (BUT only take a few minutes to do so) by putting on a great fitting pair of denim + bodysuit OR cami + black blazer + pumps. Not pictured in this post are the multiple other outfits I have styled the blazer with 🙂

I decided to change up the classic style I always go for (i.e. the effortless outfit previously described) and give the belted blazer trend a try. I always get outfit inspiration from Instagram, Pinterest, and Who What Wear (to only name a few of the many sources) and it was a trend that I often came across and had been wanting to try. You can style it with any belt, thin or thick. If you belt is too big (since it will be sitting up higher above your waist), you can take it to a shoe repair shop to add extra holes (or even DIY with an at-home tool). The belted blazer could be paired with denim, trousers, skirts, over dresses…basically ANYTHING. I ultimately decided to pair with faux leather leggings because I wanted it to be a very clean, sharp, sleek look.
I tagged all the pieces from my look in the picture captions above. I provided some additional blazer options below for you to scroll through. Most are all an oversized style, but the other details from cut, to closure, to lapels vary
Xoxo, Kel
